What is Forest School Training?
Forest School is a long term holistic learning process that aims to raise confidence, self-awareness and self-esteem in participants. Regular sessions take place in a woodland or natural environment, where the landscape itself adds to the experience of learning.
The 6 Forest School principles are:
- Long-term process – Regular sessions over time, not one-off outdoor activities.
- Natural environment – Takes place in woodland or another natural setting.
- Risk-taking – Supports appropriate, managed risks to build confidence and resilience.
- Holistic development – Develops physical, emotional, social and intellectual skills.
- Learner-centred – Encourages choice, independence, curiosity and learner-led exploration.
- Qualified practitioners – Led by trained Forest School practitioners who continually reflect on their practice
Qualified practitioners, trained in child development and learning theories, facilitate sessions tailored to meet individual outcomes for each participant. Forest School training can be applied to all age groups and abilities, and can be linked to the National Curriculum and Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
Kind words...
on skills days was fantastic.
